wild thing

You guys, I think I'm getting sick. My mom has been sick all week and I knew she wasn't keeping her germs to herself. But I have to go to yoga tonight. I am dragging myself no matter what. Maybe I'll sweat out the sickness?

We've been having unseasonably warm temperatures here in New England - it was 75 degrees today! I'm not complaining, but I'm sure the cold and then warm weather is what's making me feel sick.  The foliage also just keeps getting better and better! It's been kind of damp this week and for some reason I think the leaves look prettier when they're all wet. It just makes the colors look brighter.

I mean look at those colors! To die for, right? I am so loving fall. I am sooo in love with this shirt. I snagged it on sale from Madewell, after I'd been on the hunt for a lace shirt forever. I feel a little late to this trend, but whatever. I still love it. It goes with so much. And it's the perfect length.

I'm also in love with these shoes. And these jeans. I think this might be one of my favorite outfits ever, haha. I was so comfy but felt so cute! That's the ultimate combination. Check the nails guys! I got these stick on decals from Sephora and I've been saving them for Halloween. Sadly they did not live up to my expectations at all. They were legit stickers and didn't stay on well at all. I thought they'd be more like that rub-on nail polish stuff. I wish they were. I put them on Tuesday night and ripped them off Thursday afternoon. They didn't make it through two days of work and showering. Sad! I like my clashing animal prints.

she works hard for the money

So this is what I wore to my job interview yesterday! Yup that's right, I had a job interview. That's one of the exciting things that has happened this week. What job did I interview for, you ask? Well it just so happens to be the one I already have.

Yes, you read that right. I just interviewed for the job I have been doing since July. No big deal. And it's a huge pay raise. Like, life-changing (for me). And I've been doing it for free, basically, for four months!! They had better give me this job. I realllyyy want it. I mean I already know what I'm doing, and I enjoy it, so I'd like to continue since I've already been putting in the effort.

I bought these pants on a whim the other day. I went into American Eagle for some skinny corduroys, and I spotted these hanging up and I was like a month to a flame. Which is odd because these aren't necessarily something I would gravitate towards. They were actually a full-length pant, but the length was awkward - too long for flats, too short for heels - and the width of the leg was not flattering, so I hacked them. I'm pretty pleased with the way they turned out.

The top was a wonderful score, actually. I had been eying it at H&M a few years ago and then my mom bought it so I couldn't because then we'd twins. So I waited. And sure enough, she handed it down to me! I love it. It has a cute collar on it that I'm not sure you can see it in these pictures. The shoes are actually the same story. Mom bought them, then handed them over. Sweet deal.

Keep your fingers crossed that I get to keep the job I already have!

what is your type?

probably one of the coolest quizzes I have ever taken online. Much better done than those Facebook "What twiliGHt Charater are YOU?!" with all the typos that some bored twelve year old made.

Plus I enjoy fonts, and now I know which one is meant for me!

grease is the word

Gosh I feel like I took a semi-hiatus from blogging there! I guess I just had no time/motivation this past weekend. Okay or yesterday. But I'm back!

Gosh I feel like so much has happened this week, or at least since I last posted. I'm not sure I'm quite ready to share some of it on here yet, so I'm going to hold off.

In other news, I am super excited for the Glee Rocky Horror themed show tonight! Can you believe I just saw this movie for the first time a couple weeks ago? I actually watched it in anticipation of Glee, ha. Let me just say, it was all kinds of fabulous. I'm not sure I really cared so much about the crazy plot, but those OUTFITS. To. Die. Tim Curry in drag? With those amazing platforms? And Magenta and that other chick who's name I forget? I wanted to be them all for Halloween.

Only I'm not doing anything for Halloween this year.

My beloved 99 zips! I love these shoes so, so much, even though some people think they're hideous. Those people clearly have awful taste. Because these are AWESOME.

black hat, cadillac

So I hadn't planned on an outfit post for today, since what I was wearing yesterday wasn't all that spectacular. Then I came home from work and was rummaging around looking for one of the fur trapper hats I KNOW we have, when I happened upon this menswear gem. My brother has been tooling around in it lately. I thought it kind of vibed with my outfit and echoed the menswear thing I had goin' on with my shoes. Plus I look fairly skinny in these pictures, which is always a plus!

I'm kind of bummed because all my pants are starting to be a bit too big. That's definitely a happy thing, since that's what I am going for, but still. I can't replace all mt favorite jeans! I don't have the money, plus some of them are fairly old and irreplaceable. I'm still hesitant to start buying all new things like crazy, since I do still have quite a ways to go. I guess it's time to start purging and I can worry about re-stocking once I've hit my goal.

Friday tomorrow, thank goodness! Anyone have any fabulous weekend plans? I am definitely laying low and getting some R&R on Saturday, then having a mini-movie marathon with some pals on Sunday! Halloween movies and Halloween themed snacks! :D

what shoes to wear, how to fix your hair

I have a long-standing opinion that Tuesdays are always bad days. Monday you're kind of still in a daze from the weekend and not really thinking much about the week ahead. Tuesday is when you finally come to your senses and realize how far away Friday really is.

Tuesdays are usually extra annoying for me because the entire first half of the day is usually spent in meetings. So once my brain is nice and fried from those meetings, it's kind of hard to get myself motivated to actually complete the tasks we discussed in said meetings. Despite all that, today actually wasn't so bad. It was actually kind of a nice Tuesday. But I'm not gonna hold my breath. It's not over yet.

I have a lot I want to get done today, too. I'm still not quite finished unpacking. I still have two boxes of things that just need to be stored somewhere as I'm not using them and won't be for awhile (decorations and pictures and whatnot). So I've got a can of Monster here (found it in my car...it seemed okay still so I am drinking it, even though I really haven't had an energy drink since I used to waitress) and I'm hoping it will power me through the rest of the day. I also plan on walking Mia and doing yoga. I need to put another big push into my weight loss routine and need to step up my exercise. I also need to get my eating in check. Especially since I just had two pieces of bread and butter for dinner. BAD ME. I'm thinking doing the minimal carbs thing next week just to get myself back on track.

The dog just won't stop crying and I can't figure out what she's so verklempt about! Is this what it's like having children? Because if so I have lots of practice with small whiny things that don't use their words. She's just looking out the window, crying. It's pathetic. I'd better finish this up quick and take her for a walk before she really starts laying it on thick. Sigh. Dogs.

foundation of style

So I am using this look as my entry into Chictopia and Purple Lab NY's "Foundation of Style" contest. Even though I don't love the way the pictures came out. Oh well. I'm ordering a photography book off Amazon, so maybe my pictures will get better after that? I can just never seem to get the lighting just right. Any advice?

I was also going to start using flickr to host my pictures, as rumor has it that preserves photo quality better, but I for some reason am not smart enough to figure out how to get them into my blog from there. Oh well. Maybe I'll use Picasa instead? Anyone use that and like it?

Anyway, I wore this last Thursday when I got my hair cut. I never like the way my hair dresser dries my hair, which is sad, because I really like my hair dresser and she does such a good job cutting my hair. I'll have to get some pictures of my hair when I've done it and it looks fabulous. Gosh, I sound like my mother. Hair dressers can never get her hair style just so.

I've been listening to the mouse (or mice?!) in our attic for the last hour. It's really annoying since it seems to have taken up residence right above my bed. I'm just waiting for it to fall through the floor. My brother climbed up into the attic to try and find it, but no luck. He finally just came in and banged on the ceiling with a broom, which seems to have silenced it. For now at least. I feel bad for the little critter, but he really can't stay in my attic if he's going to make so much noise.

Anyway, back to my Foundation of Style. I decided this outfit is basically the foundation for many of my other looks. Skinny jeans are a must; they're pretty much all I wear. Cardigans are practically taking over my closet. You can mix and match this outfit so many different ways and have a million different looks. This is pretty much what I'll be living in all winter, so be prepared.

I'm off to make some hot chocolate and watch Away We Go! Have a good Monday night kids! :)

This is too bizarrely adorable not to share.

we've got the funk

I'm in a crummy mood today. I don't know what it is, I just woke up this morning and felt super blah. Luckily I don't have anything to do today except straighten up the house which is a nice quiet thing to do. Except my brother is home and he is pretty much the worst person to have around when you're trying to straighten up. Sigh. Someday I'll have enough money to buy my own place. Maybe I should start playing the lottery.

Watched the Bruins game with some friends last night and their adorable puppy. He was even wearing a little hoodie with his own doggie Bruins jersey over it. So cute! Mia never lets us dress her up.

I'm off to spend the rest of my day cleaning and working on the pile of sewing I have been meaning to do for months. Have a good Sunday!!

oh, god

People can believe in whatever they want, and I am in no way making fun of or looking down on anyone's beliefs...but this is RIDICULOUS. Please pay particular attention to the guy at the beginning that weighs "three hundred pounds!"

spooky little girl

Since I'm horribly behind on posting, you get TWO outfit posts today instead of one! Lucky kids.

To be honest, I liked this outfit better in theory. I think if I tried it again I would have chosen a more fitted sweater on top. The skirt itself it a bit too big and I think a sleeker top could have saved this. Oh well, that's how we learn I guess!
This feels like the longest week ever. I didn't get Columbus Day off (blasphemous!) and I really could have used the long weekend last weekend. Oh well. Maybe this weekend will be relaxing. I have big plans for Saturday. They consist of Starbucks and lounging at Barnes & Noble, cruising the mall and walking with Mia. Maybe I'll start working on my outline for NaNoWriMo. Anybody else do that? It's my third November doing it and I'm hoping this year I'll actually finish!

I just splurged and bought the pro version of Picnik (for five whole dollars!) and I am off to go take creepy pictures of myself and Halloween-ify them. I'll share later!

natural rock bridge

This past Sunday Boyfriend and I headed way out to western Mass to do some fall explorin'. We headed out to North Adams, MA to check out the Natural Rock Bridge State Park. I had arbitrarily chosen it from a Googled list of things do in North Adams. I arbitrarily chose North Adams from one of the many maps Boyfriend had hanging around the apartment. I'd never been further west than Amherst (once, for a college visit) so I wanted to check it out. I figured it would be a nice road trip to see the fall foliage, and I was right!

The drive was so beautiful I hardly noticed it was 3 hours long! We stopped at an awesome place for lunch that Boyfriend had been to before. I swear, you can take him anywhere and he'll know someplace good to eat. I think it was called the Wagon Wheel? Anyway, they had poutine! As well as a Pacman table and the largest collection of paint by numbers I have ever seen. At least they looked just like paint by numbers, but maybe that's just a type of art? "Paint by Numbers Revival"? I don't know, I don't know much about art, clearly. Judge for yourselves:

After lunch there was a quick stop to take some scenic pictures and on to the Natural Bridge! The park is located at the site of an old marble quarry that burned down in 1947 (well, the mill house burned down, the quarry is pretty much fine, only it's no longer a quarry). It is the only natural white marble arch and man-made marble dam in North America. You can still see part of the quarry, and there are little paths around the natural bridge so you can see the rocks from all angles.

The first picture is of the dam, and the second one is a "pothole" or a place where a rock got stuck in the current and spun around and around, carving out a circular pattern on the side there. Pretty fancy, eh? I should probably note that Boyfriend was a geology major and had fun pointing this stuff out to me, as well as explaining how marble is formed (it's squished limestone, basically).

There were also tons of old cool carvings on the rocks. They were practically covered in them. It was fun to see how old they were.

[shirt - h&m/jeans - ae/boots - old navy]

It was a perfect way to spend a fall day. I've really been enjoying fall this year. Not that I don't like fall, I'm just usually so sad to see summer go. I feel like we had a really good summer this year, weather-wise, so I wasn't as upset that it was over and time to move on to cooler temperatures. I don't think I'll feel the same about winter though.

Hehe, I didn't notice the family taking a picture in front of the giant Indian until I was cropping it! I actually took that as we were zooming by on the road!
