good for nothing, rotten piece of...

Man, I was just so ready to be super pissed off at Boyfriend and really just plot his demise and spend the rest of the night thinking of all the ways he done me wrong. But he's managed to redeem himself. Way to spoil a good night of sulking, Boyfriend.

You see, we're supposed to get 10 to 15 inches of snow tomorrow. So obviously I am not going into work. I don't know if they'll decide to close the office but either way - if they close or if I decide to stay home - I don't get paid. So day off it is! Boyfriend doesn't work the overnight on Tuesdays, so I thought this was a perfect opportunity for him to come stay with me and we could be snowed in and I could make him watch Dexter. You know what he thought would be great? Snowboarding. DISGUST. I hate snow. And snow activities. So I don't understand his obsession. I definitely don't understand how he could choose being cold outside with a bunch of dude over being snuggled up with moi. Men. No common sense. PLUS he's going on a week long snowboarding trip next week. So really, I was better deserving of his time. Right?! Support me here, ladies!

However, he has pledged every moment of his spare time to me starting tomorrow until he leaves for his trip. And if he falls asleep while we're hanging out tomorrow I have permission to kick him in the you-know-whatsies. And he says we can go sledding, and he'll buy me hot cocoa and pull my sled up the hill. And take winter outfit pictures. So I guess I have to forgive him. Just this once.

Have I talked about these jeans on here before? I don't think I have. Fine, technically they're "jeggings" but I think everyone agrees that word is awful. They are, however, the best "jeggings" EVER. They have real front pockets, which is such a pet peeve of mine. I hate fake pockets. They are super tight and the material has just enough oomph to keep you feeling contained, but it isn't so stiff you feel like a stuffed sausage. Plus, they are stretchy enough that you feel like you're wearing pajamas, but they never stretch out to the point of being saggy. In a word: Perfection. They are also short enough that I don't have to hem or cuff them. I ran right to Old Navy with my gift card after Christmas and got a pair of gray ones, too. GET THEM.

I'm headed to the gym and then home to hunker down with all my snow day supplies! Is it snowing where you are?

blast from the past

I was going for kind of a retro-70s vibe with today's outfit. I'm not sure I exactly pulled it off, but I was comfortable and happy with the way this outfit turned out nonetheless.

It would have been really awesome if I realized that the auto focus was off on the camera before I took the pictures, rather than after, but what can you do? I'm kind of digging the added softness.

I thought it would be kind of cool to document the removing of the layers. That way you guys can see what it is I wear outside on these frigid days. Mittens, hat, coat and usually a scarf. I hate being cold! I'm a tropical temperature girl through and through. Unfortunately, I live in New England. And my hair loathes humidity.

These jeans are the closest I own to a high-waisted, 70s kind of flared jean. Actually, that's a lie. I have a pair of vintage Navy (as in the military branch, not the shade of dark blue) jeans courtesy of my uncle that are pretty much as authentic as it gets, but I'm saving those for a super cheesy summer post.

Anyway, now I feel like I need a pair of awesome high-waisted flared jeans that are super flattering. Because these ain't them. They fall kind of awkwardly and only look chic if I stand just so...which I wasn't doing in most of these pictures. My hunt is on. Anyone know where I can find a good pair on the semi-cheap?

How was everyone's weekend? My was fab-tacular. Saturday I had a delightful breakfast with my bestest friend Jamie. It was so delightful, we decided to make it a monthly occasion. It was definitely good to catch up and you know, eat breakfast. Most important meal of the day! Saturday also had a quick shopping trip that resulted in some pretty awesome finds (my budget commences Friday, with my first official paycheck of the new year...eep!).

Yesterday I had a nice lunch with the Boyfriend and his family, followed by some cards. They love gambling and playing cards in that family, and my family is all trivia people. I don't like to gamble, but luckily Boyfriend always pays for me to play when I'm with his family. I am not good at cards at all, but hopefully some day I'll get the hang of it. I'll pretty much have to. You can't avoid your Boyfriend's family games forever. You know what they say...if you can't beat them, learn how to play their games and then get really good and take all their money. No? Is that not right?

Oh and then we went to see Black Swan! It was...weird. Definitely leaves you feeling kind of unsettled after. And as Boyfriend noted "no daughter of ours is being a ballerina." Noted and agreed. Unless she really wants to. Ha, then on the car ride home, Boyfriend says: "Boys plays baseball, and football and stuff...but what do girls do? Like, besides ballet, what do they do?" So I said, "Well they do take dance lessons, and cheerleading, and gymnastics... and softball and stuff. I took figure skating for a hot second once...so there's that." He seemed totally bored with all the girl activities. I fear for our daughter.

I'm off to the gym! Doing sooo good with my calories today too! Let's hope for a successful dieting week! :)

sweater weather

We made it. It's Friday! This was my first full week at work in what feels like a long time. I guess it has been a long time, what with holidays and everything. I actually didn't mind it, I felt very productive this week. Except for today, I kind of got burnt out. Nothing a nice relaxing weekend can't fix though!
Boyfriend and I just went out for some Chinese food and came home and watched Despicable Me. SO CUTE. I suspect Boyfriend slept through most of it. It stinks; he works overnights so when I do see him, he's always half asleep. That's the one big bummer about living apart - our schedules don't make it easy to spend time together.

So I LOVE the way these pictures came out. I wasn't even feeling this outfit particularly, but I decided to go outside in the freezing cold and snap some pictures anyway. I snatched my brother's camera and my tripod and stuck it in the snow and went to town. I had so much fun taking these. I don't know why. There was a snowbank I had to climb up and down in between shots. So it was basically
"Hit the timer! Run up snowy hill in heels! Pose fast!" But I was out there for so long my fingers were icicles. And I ended up liking the outfit better in pictures than I did IRL. That hardly EVER happens.

So, on a completely unrelated to anything note...I really love all my coworkers in my department right now. Okay, maybe not all all of them, there are still a couple weirdos, but seriously, the majority of them are the shiz. You know when you meet people and you're like "These are my people. I like them"? That's how I feel about these girls. Yes, our entire department is girls. Except for the one boy. I feel bad for him. I also forget he's there 90% of the time too.

Anyway, we spent our entire half hour lunch break today discussing Twilight. Not "OMG TWILIGHHTT~~!!" discussing, but more like "When I read all four books in two days I thought they were so bad" and "Oh yeah, I saw New Moon in a theater and laughed the whole time." We all agreed in the addictiveness of the series, but also agreed that almost everything about it was horrible. As one of my coworkers put it "It's like binging on McDonald's french fries...so good, but so, so bad." Then we realized we spent a half hour talking about Twilight and felt ashamed. However, those books make me feel like I have potential to be published some day. If that stuff can get printed, then my stuff can too, dammit!

Well I'm off to watch more Dexter and spend the rest of my weekend snuggled up and snowed in. :)
